Nicholas' constipation affected us in every possible way including psychologically, developmentally, and even the trust relationship between parent and child. Nicholas was constantly uncomfortable. If not from the constipation and the physical ailments that go along with it (bloating, anal tear, etc) then from the medicines (bloating, cramping, diarrhea, etc.) Our lives were ruled by medicine schedules and staying home. (Nicholas would not have a bowel movement anywhere but home).

The five minute consultations after an hour wait in the over-crowded waiting room of the Pediatric Gastroenterologist's were stressful and disappointing. We would leave the instructions to continue or increase meds and juice, and fearful warnings/future predictions of what was to come if the constipation was not resolved (including med dependency/surgery), but without a definitive diagnosis as to what the cause of the ailment may be.

Each doctor's visit was more of the same, meanwhile Nicholas started suffering from one cold that lead to one ear infection after another. The meds were a juggling nightmare between incompatibility with each other and the requirement of food/liquid versus no food/liquid, etc. Furthermore, my pointing out to the doctors that between all the meds and juice my child was consuming each day that there really wasn't enough solid food being taken in to produce a bowel movement was not considered seriously. I was also noticing significant signs of med dependency as it required more and more meds to produce the desired effect.

Finally, frustrated, fearful, and desperate for the well-being of my child I decided to make some changes in our lives. I felt something vital, but simplistic was missing. I decided to start with nutrition, which lead me to a phone call to Jenn.

Jenn is a friend of my sister, and I knew she was knowledgeable about nutrition. I called her to get some advice regarding Nicholas' ailment. She suggested there might be a misalignment in the hip area. On our first visit, the resonating (but painless) "pop" from Nicholas' hip area signified not only a long-time misalignment, but a clue to our issues of constipation AND ear infections. (When one area is "off" it's likely to throw another area out of alignment).

That night, when placing Nicolas on the toilet, I noticed that he was sitting straight. Prior to that day he had always sat a little crooked. I was so hopeful regarding this sign that the next day I reduced his med, and on the 3 rd day I stopped all the meds. He started having bowel movements every 1-3 days, then consistently every other day. Within two months he was having bowel movements every day.

Nicholas is once again, my happy, charming, and most all healthy child. We have new found freedoms that others take for granted. We are able to plan activities and make our own schedule. After a starvation of social interaction, Nicholas is now enjoying having friends.

I'm very proud of Nicholas. Throughout this whole ordeal he has shown strength, courage, and determination. And thank you Dr. Jenn for possessing the key to unlock the power within!

P.S. I really wished I had had Nicholas checked/adjusted at birth. We could have avoided a lot of heartache and pain. If and when we decide upon a sibling for Nicholas we will make sure to do so. We are a family that has made chiropractic a way of life
