There are six simple words; easy enough to say but oh so very difficult to earn. I heard these words after thirteen hours and fifty-seven minutes enduring what many consider to be the toughest one day endurance contest in the world. A 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run. To think of it all at once seems intimidating to day the least. It started out as a dream; a kind of crazy idea that sounded like it might be fun. It turned into a personal quest and a journey of self discovery, the scope of which I couldn't have imagined in the beginning.

A couple of years ago, this task had been put back in my mind as being impossible, too much to even think about doing. How could I consider it? My neck hurt almost all the time. My back felt like someone was digging into it with each breath with a blunt object. I had spent many years suffering needlessly, having accepted my conditions as permanent. I had been told that I had to live with the discomfort that had come about from multiple neck injuries, and three broken vertebrae in my back.

In this condition, there was virtually no way that I could physically put my body through the workouts that would be necessary to stand on the starting like on and Ironman triathlon. I had managed to stay active and exercise, but this would be a whole new level. I had been in pretty good shape a few times in my life, but I had never challenged myself and committed to such a task.

About three years ago, the pain and discomfort had gotten to the point that I did not wasn't to put up with it any longer and knew something had to be done. I had always been conditioned to think that chiropractic was not a legitimate field as many others have been told I'm sure. I spoke with Dr. Jill in Spa Health Club while she was doing a spine check. I decided to see what she had to say and to give chiropractic a try. As you might imagine, only after a couple of visits there was a dramatic change in my condition. The pain was subsiding, I could turn my head to both sides more comfortably and I was on the way to better health.

Fast forward to this year and I am totally convinced that chiropractic helped me with my dream of becoming an Ironman. Dr. Winget kept me in adjustment each week after the four, five and six hour bike rides, the two and three hour runs, and the countless laps in the pool. I would come in on each Wednesday and he would turn on the switch. This, I believe, helped keep me healthy, and my body able t o recover form the punishment I was putting it though by clearing the way for my body to heal itself. As we know, the body can heal itself if the interference is removed.

Chiropractic helped me reach my goal, a dream of mine that most likely would not have been realized had I not been receiving chiropractic care. It is definitely a positive influence in my life. It can be in yours as well. Maybe you don't necessarily want to become an Ironman triathlete, but chiropractic can help you with goals and dreams; things out wish to only do if you could only feel better. To say that I feel better, get up and do it whatever it may be. Feel what it is like to run down the finish strip with thousands of people cheering you on. You can win, you only have to step up and tow the starting line.
