Drs. Bruce Wong and Dr. Katherine Higgins-Katoa, Honolulu, Hawaii

I would like to share with you how GOD healed me of my illness through Dr.Bruce's chiropractic care. Last year was probably the worst year of my life. In June 2003, I began experiencing very severe headaches. On a scale of one to ten, the pain level would be about an eight if I didn't take Tylenol, and on days when I got very tired or stressed out at work, the pain level would go even higher.

My headaches were accompanied by a stiff neck, which made it almost impossible to turn my head to the left or right, which made driving very dangerous. But by far the worst part of my sickness was my nausea and dizziness, which made me feel like I had perpetual motion sickness. Any movement whatsoever would make me dizzy and feel like I would throw up. Just riding up and down in an elevator, or driving a car, would make me ill. This went on twenty-four hours a day, 7 days a week for two and a half months. During that time, I saw several different doctors, who gave me a variety of tests and exams. I had an MRI done on my brain, blood tests and eye examinations, but all the tests came back inconclusive.

The doctors never could tell me with certainty what was wrong with me. They just kept prescribing pills to lessen the pain. Once, my doctor prescribed for me a narcotic, which made me even more nauseous than my illness, and caused me to nearly pass out in my bathroom. They also sent me to physical therapy three times a week, which I did for about two months, but with no improvement in my condition whatsoever.

It was about that time that I had become desperate and very depressed. I thought I would have to live the rest of my life with my illness. That is when I went to the library and borrowed several books on chiropractic care. Medical doctors wrote some of the books and some were written by chiropractors. My discouragement grew even more because what the medical doctors said about chiropractic was contradictory to what the chiropractors said. Each side pointed accusing fingers at the other, and it was hard to figure out which side to believe. However, the concept of chiropractic seemed to make sense to me and there seemed to be some validity to the idea that subluxations can be the cause preventing the body from healing itself.

So, I knew I wanted to give chiropractic treatment a try, but the big question became: Which chiropractic doctor do you choose? As with all professions, there are good practitioners and bad ones. And in a critical and delicate area dealing with the spine, it's important to see a responsible and competent chiropractor. At the time, I had heard Dr. Bruce many times speak on one of the Christian radio stations, and I knew if at all possible, it is good to have a Christian doctor, because the Bible says that GOD gives wisdom to those that follow Him.

So I made my first appointment for a check-up and x-ray with Dr. Bruce. It turned out that I had phase II subluxation, and that my cervical spine did not have a nice 63 degrees curve like it should, but rather looked like a crooked stick. My adjustments began three adjustments a week, and I used the home traction device on a daily basis, as well as the special pillow in place of my old pillow.

After about a month, I noticed my symptoms had diminished slightly, and each week thereafter my symptoms diminished more and more. By the time Thanksgiving rolled around, I truly had something to be thankful for: my symptoms had nearly completely disappeared. Today, I rarely get any headaches. Now when I am extremely tired or have been working long hours, I temporarily experience headaches or my other symptoms, but they go away quickly. Since November of last year, I have not taken any Tylenol or painkillers, which I had done quite a bit before. I am currently weaning myself off of my allergy pills and nasal spray, and someday soon hope to be completely free of any drugs. I am excited about my prospects of living a healthier, happier and more productive life under Dr. Bruce's chiropractic care.

However, this whole episode has made me wonder how many people in this world suffer needlessly because they think they have to live with their illness. How many dreams go unfulfilled because people are simply too sick to pursue their dreams? How many relationships are unsatisfying because sick people just cannot give their best or give of themselves to others because they are so sick they can barely take care of their own needs?

I know of so many people who suffer from one malady or another, and are taking a lot of pills or prescription medications, and yet they continue to be unhealthy. I am no doctor, but it seems to me that if someone has tried one remedy and it does not work satisfactorily, then why not try alternative methods as long as they are safe and have worked for other people? I have gently suggested to many people I know who have tried conventional medicine and yet are still sick, to see Dr. Bruce and see if he can help them. So far, I have met with a lot of skepticism, which is understandable because our culture has taught us that science and medicine has come up with miraculous cures, and because we want quick, easy fixes in the form of popping pills to get rid of our illnesses.

Although we cannot force people to change their attitudes about health and treatments, we can give them information. There are books and articles on chiropractic care, which Dr. Bruce provides us with, and which we can share with people, and then let them make their own decisions. I encourage you to learn about chiropractic care, as well as other means to healthy living, and share them with others. Who knows, perhaps you can change someone's life for the better, and what better gift could you give to someone?

May GOD bless you and keep you in good health!

Sincerely,

Juan
