Dr. Yil Yildrim, Perth, Australia
Laila, DOB: 15 November 2002
Laila
did not babble as a baby and by the age of 14 months used the
word "Mum" in many ways to describe everything,
along with an elaborate array of gestations. We sought help
in the forms speech therapy and ENT experts. Laila was declared
both speech and language delayed. She was diagnosed with
dyspraxia (a speech disorder) and also had bi-lateral grommets
implanted in August 2004 (21 months) to combat otitis media
(glue ear). In reality not much progress was ever made to
her ability to speak and formulate language.
This is Laila's
last year before she commences kindergarten and the education
system, so we decided to try everything this year to try and
help Laila improve. In general conversation one day I briefly
mentioned Laila's situation to a lady I met at the gym. She
told me about Yil and Wanneroo Chiropractic and said we would
be amazed at some of the things that could happen with chiropractic.
Gill then gave us a gift certificate for Laila, and along we
came with an open mind.
Michael and I were both open to the
idea of chiropractic care for ourselves in the past, but were
not sure how much help it could offer Laila. After taking x-rays,
two main areas of concern were identified on Laila's spine.
The first was the fact that her pelvis was 8mm difference from
one side to the other. This in turn had caused a slight shift
in her spine to her right in the lower part of her trunk.
The
second and most significant to Laila was the subluxation in
her neck at C1. Her top vertebrae (C1) was basically facing
the wrong direction, instead of sitting at 30 degrees it
was lying at -12 degrees, so the central nervous system was
not being allowed to function at optimal performance. Dr Yildirim
said he had not seen a severe subluxation at C1 before in someone
so young, and in fact it was only usually replicated in car
accident victims.
It was recommended that Laila be put on a
12 month chiropractic care plan which included three months
of three visits per week and then twice a month for 9 months.
He also said to try and get Laila to look up more often.
Laila
has also suffered from nightly disturbed sleep since she was
six months old, ranging from waking up every evening to weekly
night terror episodes. She is inclined not to initiate interaction
with others and is extremely reliant on her immediate family
(especially mum) for support.
Since beginning chiropractic care,
the changes in Laila were noticeable after only a week. She
seemed more vibrant, alert and happy. After three weeks other
people were noticing how much her vocabulary and clarity of
speech had improved. Laila started sleeping through the night
most of the time. Her episodes of night terror are less frequent
(once a fortnight) and less severe (lasting about 5 minutes
an episode).
It has been 3 months now since Laila first met
Dr Yil and Dr Mike and Laila is now the child she always was
around us, around everyone. She is trying to make friends,
is starting to find the confidence to be involved in conversations.
She is attempting new more complicated words and sounds. Her
answers are no longer her familiar few responses, but phrases
and more intelligible unfamiliar words that have replaced
them.
Everyday I hear her say something new. She is three
and a half years old and currently has a language speech
age of between 2 and 3 years (about 2yrs, 9 months). Prior
to chiropractic care she had a language/speech age of between
1 and 2 year (about 18 months). In three months she had improved
more than 12 months worth in term of language/speech. Wonderful!
Prior
to chiropractic care, Laila hated being away from us (especially
mum) for any period of time. For example she goes to a 3
year old kindergarten programme that in the past had screaming
tantrums, crying, hiding etc when it was time for me to leave
her. Today however, I kissed her goodbye at the door; she
sat on the mat with everyone else, looked at me and smiled,
and then blew me a kiss with a little wave. On return to
pick her up, I was last there and she was waiting with one
of the carers, happy and talking. She told me that she played
with 'Katie' most of the day. It was so amazing!
Laila used
to wake up every night and come into our room. Since chiropractic
care she is last to wake up every morning, so everyone now
sleeps better, especially Laila (and me). We have told all
our close friends and family about the changes in Laila since
beginning chiropractic care. We have recommended to many of
them that they or their children could benefit from a chiropractor.
A few people we know see a chiropractor frequently but the
majority don't. All of our immediate family is under chiropractic
care for various plans. A couple of our girls are on twice
monthly maintenance programmes. Another daughter had subluxations
in both her neck and back identified and has been treated accordingly.
Both my husband and I are also under chiropractic care.
We have
told Laila's ENT, Speech Therapist, Paediatrician and GP of
the changes in Laila due to chiropractic care. Most had very
little response.
I give permission for this story to be used
for publicity about chiropractic care.
