Middle Ear Infections and Chiropractic Treatment

Natalie, our daughter who is 4.5 years old, had her first middle ear infection when she was three months old. Several others followed in particular in the last two winters. Last year after three continuous infections she started to react on the antibiotics. In addition we noticed that she was snoring and sometimes having bad breath.

I October 2004 we went to a 'specialist' who recommended to get her tonsils and adenoids removed and to insert grommets in her ears. By the time we finally got the appointment at Princess Margaret Hospital at the end of the summer in April 2005 her ears were dry. The doctor removed her tonsils and adenoids but decided not to insert the grommets.

With the cooler season starting, Natalie had one cold after the other and several middle ear infections and her hearing ability decreased notably. A test on the 23 rd September 2005 proved this impression with the result of total deafness on the right and only 10% hearing in her left ear. The doctor said he does not want to take our last hope but he fears it is permanent and she will need a hearing aid.

Initially the hospital wanted to put us on the waiting list again to insert the grommets. With plenty of begging we finally got an appointment for the 3 rd October 2005. In the meantime we found a flyer from Dr Yildirim in our letterbox and desperate for a solution we decided to give it a go. On the weekend of the 25 th September 2005, Natalie had another middle ear infection which we started to treat with antibiotics again.

The next Tuesday Natalie had her first chiropractic adjustment with Dr Yildirim and following his recommendation we stopped giving her the antibiotics. Just after four adjustments a miracle happened and Natalie was able to hear a little on her right ear and we cancelled the operation appointment for the subsequent Monday. Several up and downs occurred in the first month of Dr Yildirim's chiropractic adjustments but he always encouraged us that everything is progressing as he expected.

Approximately one month after the first chiropractic treatment, Natalie had another middle ear infection (again on a weekend). Dr Yildirim asked us this time not to give any medication, which was very hard for us seeing Natalie suffering from pain and not being able to do anything against it. During that weekend we were in contact several time over the phone with Dr Yildirim to get advice.

The following Monday Natalie received three adjustments throughout the day. After the third adjustment the 'locked' fluid in her right ear started to drain, which continued for the next five consecutive days. Since the fluid has drained her hearing has improved significantly.
One day in the pet shop she asked what that loud noise was - she meant several birds in a cage, whose high frequency voices she obviously did not hear before. Her question made us almost cry for luck. Recently she complains regularly that it is too noisy for her, we suppose we can live with that complaint!!!

In addition the chronic sickness made her aggressive and depressive at times. Now we and Natalie are very pleased to have the same happy outgoing girl we used to have before her illness (caused by subluxation) started to dominate her life and ours and we thank Dr Yildirim for his exemplary commitment throughout her treatment.

We give permission for this story to be used for publicity about chiropractic care and hope that it will reach many people and encourage them to take an 'alternative' approach.
